Sheep & Goats
First sheep hunters of the season need to be in the field
a few days in advance of the season opening. This is the warmest
time of the fall season. It will rain some, but rarely snows.
However, hunters must be prepared for variable weather conditions
in alpine country. Sheep hunts entail spotting the high country
for a quality trophy, then stalking to within range. Grizzly
season is also open in some areas. Ask us how to set up your
sheep or goat hunt! Call (907) 688-4337 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Fully Guided Hunts
We offer fully guided hunts for caribou, moose, black bear and brown bear. Registered guide John Phipps of Alaska Adventures handles all of our guided hunts. He has a long history of guiding in Alaska and is VERY good at finding those trophy animals.
We furnish everything needed for camp, food etc. John Phipps
Alaska Adventures provides the services for the guided hunts.
On all hunts we strive to check on you every couple of days, weather permitting. We move you as needed to keep you in good hunting areas, and we try to get your meat into Iliamna as soon as we know you have an animal down. If you are not taking your meat home we can arrange for it to be donated to local charities. You can have the animal boned and boxed for shipment in Iliamna for an extra fee. Your antlers, capes and hides can be expedited from Iliamna to your home by our agent for a reasonable fee.
Before hunting any distance from your camp, stop to think about how far you are willing or able to carry harvested game. A bull moose will dress out 350 to 750 pounds of mostly boned meat and will require four to eight round trips carrying approximately 100 pounds per trip through swap, brush and tundra. A brown bear hide can weigh over 120 pounds and can be cut in half if necessary. Even a big bull caribou will weigh 150-180 pounds of boned meat.
If it is necessary to make multiple trips to pack meat back to camp, take the time to pack all of the meat at least 200 yards away from the kill site and conceal it under a bush. Birds and other small animals will soon find your kill and can draw in other scavengers like bears. Always carry your rifle when packing meat and be alert each time you return to the kill site and meat cache area in case a bear has moved in during your absence.
